One of the New York Rangers pleasant surprises is going to spend the next few weeks on the disabled list.
Kevin Hayes, who is third in scoring for the Blueshirts with 13 goals and 22 assists, suffered his undisclosed injury during New York’s 1-0 OT victory over Detroit on Sunday. He played just under nine minutes before having to leave the contest.

Hayes, who was seen hobbling around after sustaining the injury, underwent an MRI Monday morning, after which the team announced the 2-3 week timeline. Should he miss three weeks, it will amount to eight games.
Hayes’ injury is a major blow to New York, which holds the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with 61 points in 47 games, nine points up on second wild card team Philadelphia. The silver lining for the Rangers is that he will miss fewer games because of the upcoming All-Star break.
