The Miami Dolphins are a strange team. When they lost starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill in the pre-season, they coerced Bears castaway Jay Cutler out of retirement to take the snaps. They’ve managed to stumble into a winning record of 4-3 so far in 2017, mostly thanks to the electric play of running back Jay Ajayi.
So naturally, the Dolphins traded Ajayi away to the 7-1 Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday morning. Wait, what?

The Eagles parted with a 2018 4th round pick in exchange for Ajayi, but that seems like a small price to pay for a dynamic offensive weapon. But why the hell did the Dolphins ship one of their best players off for a ham sandwich and a bag of footballs?
There are rumors that Miami head coach Adam Gase is furious over a couple of things, including how his players handled the national anthem protests and the 40-0 loss they suffered at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens last week. ESPN’s Chris Mortenson tweeted out that Gase was looking to “make an example” out of someone, but quickly deleted the tweet.
Looks like Ajayi was the example, although we’re not sure trading away one of your best players in really the answer.
