Asking for a trade in any major sport is a bit of a fool’s game.

In the case of Nashville Predators 36-year-old veteran center Mike Ribeiro, it got him sent to the waiver wire. After reportedly asking for a trade (to the Montreal Canadiens, according to a report on ESPN), Ribeiro was placed on waivers Friday.

He has four goals and 21 assists in 46 games this season, but has been a healthy scratch the last three games and for five of the last 11. His production had only a slight downgrade this season after scoring 50 points in 81 games last year.

The journeyman has played for Montreal, Dallas, Washington and Phoenix in his 17-year, 1,074 game career and has scored 228 goals and 565 assists. He has another 34 points in 67 playoff games.

Ribeiro is in the final season of a two-year, $7 million contract.
