Just a week and a half after getting smoked at mid-ice by Buffalo’s Jake McCabe, Winnipeg Jets super rookie Patrik Laine took to the ice Wednesday for a skate with his team.

Laine, who was leading all rookie scorers with 21 goals and 16 assists before the big hit on Jan. 7, was concussed on the play and his return to game action has “no time frame” according to coach Paul Maurice. Laine has to go through a full-contact practice with symptoms before he is green-lighted to play.

The Finnish phenom was on the ice with the team’s fitness director before the morning skate, after which Maurice offered up his thoughts.

“This is the next phase,” Maurice said. “We’ll see how he feels tomorrow to see if he’s going on or not. Then you start augmenting it everyday. It’s a good sign.”

The Jets sure could use his scoring touch, as they are 1-3-1 since Laine went down, including back-to-back one-goal losses to Arizona on Jan. 13 (4-3) and Los Angeles on Jan. 14 (3-2, OT).
