Carmelo Anthony didn’t even make it halftime on Wednesday night.
With about three minutes left in the second quarter, the Knicks star was fighting for rebound position under the basket with Atlanta Hawks forward Thabo Sefolosha. Anthony must have taken exception to some of Sefolosha’s tactics, because he just up and smacked the Hawks swingman in the face, before backing up quickly.
Check it out:
Melo was assessed a Flagrant 2 on the play, which means an automatic ejection from the game. He had 10 points and five rebounds at the time and his team was down by five. The Knicks would eventually lose the game 102-98.
After the game, Sefolosha didn’t mince words about the incident.
“He punched me,” Sefolosha said, according to ESPN. “That was a fist right in my face.”
Anthony did not speak to the media after the game. It’s unclear whether the NBA will tack on any additional punishment for the incident.
