The Cleveland Cavaliers are in a rut. Despite having the best player on the planet in LeBron James and making three straight trips to the NBA Finals (and winning one of them), they have lost nine of their last 12 games. They’ve slid down to third place in the Eastern Conference and are in danger of falling even further if they don’t turn it around.

Recently, the team has been plagued by trade rumors and put up an embarrassing performance against the Oklahoma City Thunder, giving up a ridiculous 148 points. During that loss, forward Kevin Love left early claiming he was dealing with an illness. However, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that some anonymous members of the Cavs were openly questioning whether Love was really sick or not.

So was Kevin Love really sick? Or was he just looking for an excuse to leave a game that Cleveland was losing badly? After all, Michael Jordan famously played through the flu. Surely Love could have battled on a bit longer, right? According to Wojnarowski, he defended himself to his teammates.

Things are pretty rocky in Cleveland right now. Their former second-best player Kyrie Irving is tearing it up in a Celtics uniform after forcing a trade last summer. Isaiah Thomas is just returning from a major injury and trying to figure out how to fit in with his new teammates. LeBron is still LeBron, of course. But he expects — no, demands — the very best from his teammates, and it can be hard to play up to the King’s expectations sometimes.

The Cavs will still make the playoffs with ease, but now there’s a serious question about whether a team like the Celtics, Raptors, or even the Heat or the Wizards, can oust Cleveland as the Eastern Conference champs.
